Agreement on the Use of the Read Speech Database
of Mainichi Articles


It is hereby agreed between the Acoustical Society of Japan hereinafter referred to as "A" ) and the user (a member of the Acoustical Society of Japan, hereinafter referred to as "B") of speech data on newspaper articles, under the terms and conditions stated below regarding the use for research purposes of the Read Speech Database of newspaper articles, which were built from the CD-ROM Version of the Mainichi articles data and from the database amended by Real World Computing Partnership (hereinafter referred to as "RWCP" ) :
 Article 1  ( Contents of Data )
 "Newspaper articles data" shall be the whole sentence read from
 articles of the Mainichi Newspaper, which is owned by Mainichi Ltd.
 "Newspaper articles tag data" shall be the database ( data set name
 RWC-DB-TEXT-95-1 ) owned by RWCP.
 "Newspaper articles speech data" shall be the data outlined below,
 which were extracted¡¿created by "A" from the "Newspaper articles data" and
the "Newspaper articles tag data".
   ¡İSpeech data on sentences read by multiple speakers from the "Newspaper
tag data" selected from "Newspaper articles data"
   ¡İText of the read sentences
      (Correspondence between the text of the read sentences and the
Newspaper articles data shall be clearly specified.)
   ¡İSentence reading data
   ¡İMorpheme data and related statistical information obtained from
"Newspaper articles tag data"
   ¡İOther statistical data which do not by themselves afford the
possobility of  reproducing the original articles of the Mainichi

 Article 2  ( Permission to Use Data )
 "A" shall permit "B" to use Newspaper articles speech data.

 Article 3  ( Copyright ownership )
 Copyright of the read speech sentences text shall be owned by
 Mainichi Ltd.
 Copyright of the Newspaper articles tag data shall be owned by RWCP.
 Copyright of the other newspaper articles speech data shall be owned by
"A".

 Article 4  ( Extent of permission )
 1. "B" is granted permission to use the Newspaper articles speech data only
for research purposes.
 2. "B" may not sell, rent, publish or distribute the Newspaper articles
data, Newspaper articles tag data, Newspaper articles speech data, or
 reproduce any of these data for the benefit of any third party, without a
written permission from "A".

 Article 5  ( Distribution )
 "B" shall receive CD-ROMs distributed by "A" including the Newspaper
articles speech data, in exchange for payment of the costs incurred.

 Article 6  ( Definition of the User )
 The Newspaper articles speech data shall be used by "B" himself, or
 those who belong to an organization with the same address as that used by "
B".

 Article 7  ( Publication/Presentation of information )
 1. Within the terms specified by this agreement, "B" may present papers
that contain information obtained by using the Newspaper articles speech
data.
  2. In this case, it shall be clearly specified that such papers are
 based on the "ASJ Newspaper articles read speech corpus".
 In addition, "B" shall submit to "A" offprints or a copy of his papers, as
well as the name of the conference and the date of presentation.
 3. Publication of research accomplishments shall include
 descriptions of the data or processing program obtained by using the
Newspaper articles speech data, within the terms stipulated above in Article
4. "B" shall clearly specify that such accomplishments were achieved by
using the "ASJ newspaper article read speech corpus" and, concurrently with
the presentation of related papers,  "B" shall report their content to "A"
in writing.

 Article 8  (Damage Liabilities)
 Mainichi Ltd., RWCP and "A" shall not be liable for any damages
 arising from the use of this database.

 Article 9  ( Request for submission of information )
 Upon request issued by "A", "B" shall submit information on results
 obtained by using the data described herein.

 Article 10  ( Term of validity )
 This agreement shall be valid for one year from the date it is
 concluded.  It shall be automatically renewed unless "A" or "B" makes
 protests and objection in writing one month prior to the expiration of this
term.  Furthermore, if the organization to which "B" belongs changes or "B"
changes job¡¿post, "B" shall report such changes to "A" without delay and,
if necessary, shall conclude a new agreement.

 Article 11  ( Others )
 "A" and "B" shall resolve any problems in good faith and through
 mutual consultations, unless otherwise specified herein.

 IN WITNESS WHEREOF,  the parties hereto have made out this written
Agreement in duplicate, and both parties shall retain one copy each.
